Life on Mars Trail
Last week, I ticked off one of the places from my bucket list - the Life on Mars trail on the island of Pag, Croatia. Well, I actually ticked off more than one place since I only spent 24 hours in Dublin between my two recent trips, but more on that in the next post.
I'm not the greatest ambassador of Croatia, even though I was born and raised in the country (it's safe to say I have more patriotic feelings toward Ireland). But that's precisely why you can trust me when I say that something is worth seeing/experiencing, and this trail IS truly stunning. I'm not going to get into the details; you can find all the information you need on the official Life on Mars Trail website. I will mention that the trail is of moderate difficulty, and the terrain is quite rocky, which makes is a bit slippery.
The last time I was in Pag was during my childhood. I went there for a summer holiday with my parents, and I remember having white eyebrows after getting out of the sea due to the high salt concentration (the largest traditional sea salt factory in Croatia is located on the island). For all the cheese lovers out there, the island is also famous for its artisan sheep cheese, which I rewarded myself with after the hike. Absolutely delicious.
It might not look like it from the photos, but it was the perfect day for hiking. Taking a dip at one of the beaches (photo 9) and looking at the monumental rocks from the sea towards the end of the hike was definitely one of my highlights. Now, I'll let photos do the talking.
P.S. The last three photographs are from the island in general, not from the trail itself.
